"You've got thirty seconds before security rotates," the voice in her earpiece warned. That would be Marcus—their inside man.
"I only need twenty."
Her fingers flew across the keyboard. The encryption was military-grade, but Mira had spent three years developing backdoors into exactly these systems.
The files downloaded. And as she read them, her world collapsed.
Project Lazarus wasn't just about resurrection. It was about control. Every "subject" had been implanted with neural chips that allowed remote manipulation.
Her father wasn't just alive. He was a puppet.
And according to the final file, Subject 349—the newest addition to the project—was Mira Santos herself.
"The chip was implanted when you were five," a voice said behind her. "During that surgery you don't remember."
Mira spun, reaching for her weapon, but her hand froze mid-motion.
"I really am sorry," her father said, his eyes empty of everything she'd loved. "But you weren't supposed to find out yet."
