"Let me get this straight," Marcus said, swirling whiskey in a crystal glass that was probably worth more than most people's cars. "You want me to steal the Crown Jewels."
The woman across from him didn't blink. "Not all of them. Just the Heart of Avalon."
"Just the most heavily guarded diamond in history. No problem."
"You'll have help." She slid a dossier across the table. "Eliza Chen for the tech. Sakura Tanaka for... obstacles. And funding won't be an issue."
Marcus flipped through the file. It was comprehensive—security rotations, guard schedules, even the exact timing of the motion sensors.
"This is inside information. You have someone on the inside."
"We have someone everywhere, Mr. Vale." The woman stood, adjusting her elegant coat. "The question is: are you in, or are you out?"
Marcus thought of the orphanage that had raised him, now threatened with closure. Of the debts he'd been running from for years. Of the challenge in this woman's eyes.
"When do we start?"
